Hero policeman who was shot when he cornered and killed Berlin terror trucker celebrates with pals from hospital bed
Cops came under fire after confronting Christmas market mass murderer
THE hero cops who caught the Berlin massacre suspect - and potentially averted a fresh Christmas slaughter - has been photographed in hospital.
Despite being a few weeks into the job, trainee officer Luca Scatà still managed to chase down and shoot dead the world’s most wanted man, Anis Amri.
The Sicilian, who works in Milan, in Italy, used his initiative and approached the killer outside Sesto San Giovanni station in the northern Italian city while on patrol with colleague Christian Movio.
Because he looked like the Berlin terror suspect, they asked him for his ID.
But Amri then pulled a gun from his bag and began opening fire - while screaming ‘Allahu Akbar’.
Movio was then hit in the shoulder.
Meanwhile Amri ran through the square ducking behind cars while shooting.
But brave Scatà chased him before taking aim and shooting him dead in the street.
Movio, talking from his hospital bed where is recovering from the bullet wound, said: "My partner's actions were exemplary, he reacted immediately when the pistol came out."
Interior Minister Marco Minniti telephoned the officers to congratulate them.
He said he would be visiting to “personally give them a hug.”
Amri is believed to have slipped over the border from France by train.
