Shoppers in Sydney descend on Boxing Day sales… with bargain hunters racing into shops to bag the best deals
PEOPLE all over the UK are gearing up for the start of the Boxing Day sales tomorrow.
But in Australia, the shops are already open – and people have wasted no time in getting through the doors, some of which opened as early as 5am.
Pictures have emerged of dedicated bargain hunters gathered outside a David Jones store in Sydney, New South Wales – where hordes of shoppers queued outside the upmarket Australian department store.
In past years, shoppers have queued from as early as 3am – and this year looked to be no different, as people were snapped sitting on blankets on the ground as they waited for staff to open up.
David Jones are expecting over 1 million customers nationwide on Boxing Day alone, The Sydney Morning Herald reported – while shoppers are expected to spend $2.41 billion in total (£1.4 billion).
Meanwhile, in the UK, bargain hunters are expected to splash out an eye-watering £3.8 billion.
