Army bosses paid out over £1million after member of Armed Forces was injured by closing door
The Ministry of Defence also forked out £1million to someone hurt in a fall
MILITARY bosses paid out more than £1million after a member of the Armed Forces was injured — by a closing door.
Officials refused to say how the accident happened but previous payments were made to people who had fingers trapped or broken by a door slamming.
The Ministry of Defence also forked out £1million to someone hurt in a fall.
And £888,000 went to a serviceman exposed to the cold, figures show.
But these were dwarfed by a £12million payout thought to be linked to botched maternity care.
Some £6million went to a soldier thought to have suffered burns while putting out a fire while training overseas and £4.1million was paid in a chemical exposure case.
The MoD figures for 2022/23, which include legal fees, dwarf those for personnel injured in the line of duty, which is capped at £575,000.
The TaxPayers’ Alliance said the costs “outline the importance of ensuring accidents are avoided”.
The MoD said it has “robust processes”.
