Baggage handler suffers serious head injury after falling 12ft onto tarmac while loading luggage onto easyJet flight at Luton Airport

The employee, aged in her 20s, was rushed to hospital after the horror accident on Christmas Eve

A YOUNG baggage handler was seriously hurt after plunging 12 feet onto tarmac at Luton Airport on Christmas Eve.

The woman, aged in her 20s, was left in a very serious but stable condition after suffering a head injury.

It is understood the woman was loading luggage onto a plane on a belt loader when she fell.

She is said to be an employee of Menzies Aviation which is the ground handler for easyJet.

The plane which the employee was working on was reportedly heading to Inverness.

Paramedics from The Magpas Air Ambulance rushed to the scene on Saturday morning at around 11.33am and gave her a general anaesthetic.

The injured female was flown to Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridge, reported .

The airport's fire crews were also in attendance.

A spokeswoman for Luton Airport said a full investigation into the incident is underway and they could not comment further -  but she said a report would be released in future.
