Mum left fuming after Royal Mail leaves her Christmas packages in a bin shed – and binmen THROW them away
The mum now fears one of the parcels might have been for her baby daughter
A MUM has slammed Royal Mail after her Christmas parcels were left in a bin shed - and binmen chucked them away.
Alexandra Smart left to visit family for Christmas on December 23 and wasn't expecting to receive any packages while she was away.
But when the 34-year-old got home yesterday, she had a note from Royal Mail telling her two parcels had been delivered while she was out.
She was stunned when she discovered a bungling postie had left the packages in a bin shed at her flat - and the binmen had been in to empty them.
Alexandra now has no idea what was in the parcels and who sent them because there was no information on the note.
She now fears one package may have been for her three-month-old daughter.
The mum of one, from Finsbury Park, North London, said: "I had just got home from seeing family over Christmas when I checked the post box and saw I had one of those 'sorry we missed you' notes.
"It said that two parcels that they had tried to deliver were in the bin shed at the flat.
"I looked up and realised they had gone because the bin shed had been cleared and the rubbish taken that day.
"I have absolutely no idea what's even in the packages but I suspect one is for my three-month-old daughter.
"The one day the bin men come on time this happens!
"It's like the efficiency of the binmen versus the inefficiency of Royal Mail."
Alexandra called Royal Mail but was told only the sender could make a complaint - even though she doesn't know who that is.
The mum is also wondering why the postman didn't just take the packages back to the post office, which normally happens to her.
She said: "I have never had this done before - normally I have to go to the delivery office and pick up my parcels from there.
"I've got no idea why this guy thought it was a good idea to leave the packages in a bin shed over Christmas when chances are I wouldn't be there.
"The whole situation is really weird because there are now these mystery packages for me and I might never know what they are or where they came from.
"I have a feeling one might be for my baby daughter but I can't be sure.
"It's difficult because I won't even be able to send thank you notes."
Royal Mail said they were looking into what happened.
A spokesman said: "We are very concerned to hear about Ms Smart’s experience and we have investigating this case as a matter of urgency.
"Our policy, which we constantly reinforce to our delivery colleagues, is to deliver all parcels as well as letters to our customers' addresses – or to a neighbour.
"We apologise to Ms. Smart that we failed to follow the appropriate process. We will be speaking direct to her and offering a goodwill payment."
The blunder comes after Royal Mail apparently took fake signatures for deliveries meant for other customers.
