THE iconic Trafalgar Square Christmas tree has been blasted AGAIN as disappointed Brits ask "where's the other half" of it.

Each year Londoners look forward to marking the official start of their festive season - but this spruce hasn't spread the holiday cheer.

Each December 1, a tree is put up at the landmark as an annual gift from Norway and it's become a bustling tourist hotspot as people gather to embrace the Christmas spirit.

The much-loved tradition began in 1947, and this year the fir, shipped from Oslo, stands at a whopping 62ft (19m) tall.

A lighting ceremony on December 7 was greatly anticipated until people saw the "waste of a tree" being put up.

Brits have slammed the festive fir on social media, claiming it's "half dead already".

"Unbelievable waste of a tree. Ridiculous," wrote one fuming viewer.

"That's only half a tree. Explains the recession in Norway," added another.

Someone else asked: "Where's the other half of it?"

"Is it me, or does it look quite dead?," echoed a fourth disappointed Christmas fan.

"Each year it feels like this is a visual representation of that state of the nation. This year is 'meh, could be better, could be worse'," suggested another.

Meanwhile a dismayed onlooker simply said: "Oh dear."

Another argued: "They are taking the p***, that ain't a Christmas tree. Well it is but it's not what we expect. Send it back."

But, others called for more spruce sympathy and claimed it just needed some time to recover from its journey.

Others said they thought it looked better than previous years - in which it was slated.

The Trafalgar Square Christmas tree raised eyebrows in 2021 when it was blasted as a "national embarrassment" and it appeared "half dead."

Snaps of the 78ft (24m) "scrawny" spruce showed it looking "hungover" and "spindly", according to disappointed viewers.

One person said on X/Twitter: "The Trafalgar Square tree is utterly depressing.

"There's no excuse for this. Shameful."

Another posted: "If 2021 was a Christmas tree."

While a third chimed: "Looks like Norway lifted last year’s tree out the skip and returned it to Trafalgar Square, complete with some termites.

";I had no idea they hated the WM govt so bad."

It then received hate again last year when Londoners commented on how bare the branches were.

One person said: "Judging by the photos of the Trafalgar Square Christmas tree being felled last week in Norway and arriving today, it's been transported as hand luggage on Ryanair."

Someone else posted: "Ok, own up, who switched out the Trafalgar Square Christmas tree for one from Wish mid-journey?"

This Christmas tree tradition was born to commemorate the UK's support of Norway during World War Two.

The country was invaded in 1940, forcing the King to flee to the UK and operate his government from there.

It comes as a town's "shocking" Christmas tree was slated as the UK's "worst" by furious locals - who say they could get a better one for £55 on the high street.

Public outcry has forced council officials into talks to replace the festive fir in Hattersley.

Meanwhile, another was branded the "worst in history", after its shabby figure and sad decorations sparked ridicule.

The "embarrassing" tree was intended left residents speechless.

Another sad spruce was likened to an upside down Cornetto.

Plus, more disappointed locals who compared their tree to a "twig".
