Kate earns place in Royal Photographic Society with adorable snaps of Prince George and Princess Charlotte

But what will our royal photographer Arthur Edwards make of the Duchess of Cambridge's efforts?

THE Duchess of Cambridge’s portraits of her children have captured her membership of a top photography club.

Kate, who studied history of art, first shared pictures taken in Borneo in 2012, and has developed as a snapper.

Three years later she broke with royal tradition by taking and releasing the first official pictures of her children Prince George and Princess Charlotte together.

Now the Duchess’s images have led to her being made an honorary member of the Royal Photographic Society — a group of more than 1,200 UK snappers.

Arthur Edwards, The Sun’s Royal Photographer for 40 years, said: “The big test of all of Kate’s pictures is that when you look at them you smile.

"It’s about capturing that moment when the kids are at their best — and she has done a superb job.

“She deserves this honorary membership. She has spent time learning how to be a good photographer.

"Her first efforts were not great but she has progressed rapidly.

“I just wish she would go out and get a picture of Harry and Meghan Markle for us. That would save a lot of time and effort.”

Here, Arthur gives his verdict on some of the Duchess’s shots.

ARTHUR SAYS: “She’s come a long way since taking this – you have to struggle to work out it’s a photo of trees in Borneo – the picture should tell the story, not the caption.”

ARTHUR SAYS: “You  struggle to pick out the orangutan from the  tree in Borneo. Her more recent work shows hom much she has improved.”

ARTHUR SAYS: “This took the pressure off everybody on  George’s first day at school.

"When William and Harry both started there were 50 or so photographers outside the gates and they looked amazed at all the attention.

"Kate and William have obviously decided they don’t want that for their own children. It’s just a quick snap and it’s enough. She should be proud of it.”

ARTHUR SAYS: “This is a bonanza picture of Charlotte with a toy.

"Kate has clearly learned so much and is now doing a superb job of photographing her own children and sharing them with us all.”

ARTHUR SAYS: “This is a magnificent picture – you can really see the excitement on the child’s face as she pushes the trolley.

"Kate obviously keeps the camera loaded and charged and just goes for it when the moment presents itself.”

ARTHUR SAYS: “This  bird’s-eye view of trees, again in Borneo, was not The Duchess’s best effort . . . but she was only just starting.”

ARTHUR SAYS: “Charlotte looks so, so happy in this picture with George.

"When you photograph children you have to get them at the right time of day, after they have had a rest, a sleep or something to eat.

"You need to get them in that lovely, playful mood to get the best pictures. There is no one in a better position to do that than the mother.”
