Woman, 49, dies after having insides ‘ripped apart’ in horrific injuries after falling off jet ski
The news comes alongside a long string of other jet-ski related tragedies that occurred this year
A WOMAN was killed after sustaining horrific injuries when she fell off a high-speed jet ski driven by her husband, according to reports.
It was reported that her husband accelerated as she fell – and that the power of the jet propulsion led to a rupture in her groin.
Russian woman Elena Spiryakova, 49, from Samara, was rushed to hospital but doctors were unable to save her.
Her husband Oleg, 52, now faces a criminal case into “causing death by negligence” after claims that he created a “water hammer” that hit his wife in between her legs, reported Russian news outlet Baza.
The tragedy took place in July 2023 on the Samara River, but details have only now emerged after the prosecutors intervened.
The victim was riding on the back of the jet ski on the river which flows into the larger Volga River in Samara.
“After another turn, the woman could not stay on the jet ski and fell into the water, and at that moment her husband ‘hit the gas’,” said the report.
The power of the acceleration and jet propulsion meant that Elena sustained a serious “hydraulic injury”.
“The victim was urgently taken to hospital, but Elena died the next day,” stated Baza.
Her relatives told the media outlet that a criminal case had been launched into her death.
This comes alongside a long string of jet-ski related deaths over the last year.
In May of this year, emergency services were rushed to Worthing beach in Goring-by-Sea after a jet ski rider crashed as a result of intense currents.
Witnesses recounted that the man had come off the jet ski while thousands packed the beach.
Beachgoer Tracy Thompson said: “The current was strong and took the jet ski too far away from him.
“Heartbreaking watching him while helpless on the shore.”
While an 11-year-old Brit tragically died on holiday in Turkey in August.
Yagnmur Koseoglu was on the back of her dad’s jet ski when another craft slammed into them at high speed, killing the youngster instantly.
Shocking video footage was filmed by Yagnmur’s brother and shows the young girl and her dad Okan, 41, riding off the coast of Ayvalik, Izmir.
Unsuspecting family members can be heard laughing and joking as they watch the pair – before another jetski appears, flying into the side of them and knocking them both into the sea.
Her brother can be heard saying: “What the f***. Those guys have just ran into dad and Yagnmur. What the f***!”
A source added that after the camera stopped rolling, the assailants’ jetski had spun around and run over the father and daughter again whilst they were in the water.
Ministers in the UK have had to toughen the punishment for jet-ski riders after the rise in these tragedies.
Maritime Minister Baroness Vere said: “The watercraft industry is thriving and it’s great to see more and more people enjoying leisure activities.
“However, they must do so safely.
“That’s why we’re introducing a new law to crack down on any dangerous misuse of watercraft like jet skis.
“It will give the Maritime and Coastguard Agency greater power to prosecute those responsible for causing accidents or entirely avoidable tragedies.
“We’ll continue working to ensure our country’s coasts and waters are safe for everyone.”
