I’m a millionaire after huge National Lottery win – first item I bought is a kettle… I know what I’ll do with the rest

A NEW millionaire has revealed the first item he bought after winning on the National Lottery was a kettle - and has already planned what to do with the rest of the money.

The mystery man, known only as Mr W, has won £1 million and knows what he's doing with his new dosh.

The Leicestershire man won the Cash Bolt Christmas Millionaire game from The National Lottery.

He is very sensibly also planning to set up savings accounts for his grandchildren - along with the new kettle.

Andy Carter, senior winners’ advisor at The National Lottery, said: “Fantastic news for Mr W on winning this incredible prize.

"He can make as many celebratory cups of tea as he likes with his new kettle, and has some very lucky grandchildren with lots of savings for the future! Huge congratulations!”

Mr W played via the National Lottery app and has become one of more than eight million players who win each week on the range of games.

The win comes weeks after one person won a £13,035,101 jackpot prize just before Christmas in a life-changing win.

Winners have the opportunity to remain anonymous or, like Mr W, release limited details about themselves and their spending plans.

A couple who scooped a similar amount, winning a £1million on a scratchcard, claim they still budget and their life hasn't changed - except for batting away rude comments.

Emma and Phil Wildin, from Cinderford, in Gloucestershire, were stunned when they discovered their massive windfall, but didn't splash the cash how many expected.

Phil didn't retire, and Emma still shops in the local Co-op where she bagged the winning ticket - while sticking to a tight budget.

"Our dream has always been to build our own house, but really we're just happy to be able to give the kids a nice life until they're old enough to go out and make their own," she added.

Players can buy tickets in shops, play online or by downloading the National Lottery app.

The Cash Bolt Christmas Millionaire instant win game is still available to play on the National Lottery app for a limited time only. It costs £5 to play and offers a one in 2.69 overall chance of winning a prize.

The National Lottery generates £30 million each week for National Lottery-funded projects. This money helps fund all sorts of things across the nation, with over 685,000 grants supporting projects both big and small.
