A RESIDENTIAL street was submerged under several inches of water this morning - sparking chaos for morning commuters.
Footage tweeted by local cops shows floodwater gushing down the road in Ruislip, Middx, at 5.30m.
Hillingdon police issued an alert warning people to avoid it and surrounding roads as engineers tried to fix the burst main.
They tweeted: "*WARNING* Breakspear Road South CLOSED **Major Flooding** Avoid area."
Later the water subsided to reveal a large sinkhole had opened up in the street.
The flooding brought misery for residents trying to get to work as several streets were closed and will remain so for the rest of the day.
But one determined resident managed to get through by wrapping plastic bags over his shoes as makeshift wellies.
Police tweeted a photo with the caption: "No wet feet here", after one local officer got a soaking earlier.
It comes weeks after a burst main turned streets into a river just before Christmas in Stoke Newington, north London.
