Thousands of children’s Minnie and Mickey Mouse hooded sweatshirts recalled over choking hazard fears

Customers who purchased the £25 infant and toddler sweatshirt are being urged to return it after it was found to be defected

THOUSANDS of Disney Minnie and Mickey Mouse kids hoodies are being recalled over fears it could cause a choking hazard.

Customers who purchased the £25 baby and toddler sweatshirts from Walt Disney World in Florida or via the Disney mobile app between April and October 2016 have been urged to return the faulty item for a full refund.

, the recall comes after officials discovered the three-snap closure on the front side of the hoodie could pop out easily - which could potentially cause a child to choke on a loose part.

No incidents of choking or injuries from the hoodies have been reported.

Around 15,000 black Minnie and Mickey Mouse made out of cotton and polyester blend have been recalled as a result.

The sweatshirts, which have ears of the Disney character attached to the hood, were made for babies and toddlers in sizes six months, 12 months, 18 months and 24 months.

Affected Minnie Mouse hoodies have date codes of FAC-010635-16194 or FAC-010635-16015 printed on a label on the left seam and a UPC code of (6M) 400000175669, (12M) 400000175676, (18M) 400000175683 or (24M) 400000175690 printed on the hang tag.

Mickey Mouse hoodies have date codes of FAC-010635-16220, FAC-010635-16015 or FAC-010635-16280 on the left side seam and a UPC code of (6M) 400000145433, (12M) 400000145440, (18M) 400000145457 or (24M) 400000145464 on the hang tag.

The recall read: "Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled infant hoodies and contact Walt Disney Parks and Resorts US, Inc. for instructions on returning them for a full refund."

The defected products are not available in the UK.

Last year, Asda recalled all of its Disney Buzz Lightyear sound effect costumes after learning that they pose a risk of strangulation.

The retailer said the costumes do not carry the appropriate hazard warning on the label and are not suitable for children under 36 months because an attached cord on the wings presents a strangulation hazard.
