Pothole repairs on roads ‘could cost more than £1billion a MONTH within two years’
Repair backlog will take 14 years to clear, says Asphalt Industry Alliance

POTHOLE repairs on roads could cost more than £1billion a month within two years, it was claimed yesterday.
Last year’s bill hit £11.8billion, up from £9.8billion in 2012.
Experts warn the cost will be £14billion by 2019.
Councils fix almost two million a year.
But the Asphalt Industry Alliance says it would take 14 years to clear the repair backlog.
The Local Government Authority wants £1billion extra a year for road maintenance.

"It is wrong and unfair that the Government allocates almost 40 times more to maintaining national roads, which it controls, compared with local roads, which are overseen by councils.
"Our roads crisis will only worsen unless we address it as a national priority.”
