Romantic Prince Harry whisked girlfriend Meghan Markle off on romantic first holiday together to see Northern Lights in secluded cabin
ROMANTIC Prince Harry has whisked girlfriend Meghan Markle to Norway to see the Northern Lights.
Loved-up Harry, 32, spirited the 35-year-old actress to the edge of the Arctic Circle for their first holiday together.
The couple left London in utmost secrecy on Monday after Suits star Meg had seen in New Year with the royal.
Then they jetted into the remote and beautiful town of Tromso on the Norwegian fjords, where they enjoyed trips on the lake, whale-watching and spectacular sunsets in the snow.
Then they cuddled up to watch the magnificent Aurora Borealis light up the night skies on their first holiday together.
The lovebirds’ cabin on the northern tip of Norway boasts breathtaking mountain views.
A pal said: “Harry wanted to make this first holiday something Meg will never forget.
“It wasn’t an obvious choice like a glitzy beach resort or tropical island.
“He’d put a lot of thought into it and wanted to make it as romantic and special as possible.
“Harry wanted to get away from everyone and be totally on their own — just them.
“The Northern Lights are at their best at this time of year and currently have been the most amazing for ages. They really have had an unforgettable time.”
Harry, 32, and Meghan had been apart over Christmas.
Meghan spent the festive period with her mum Doria Ragland, 60, at home in Toronto — while Harry was at Sandringham with the Queen and the rest of the royal family.
But the pair couldn’t bear to be apart for long.
The Sun revealed they’d spent a week together at Harry’s cottage in Kensington Palace just before Christmas, when we printed the first picture of them walking hand-in-hand through London’s Piccadilly before a theatre trip.
And last Thursday Meghan flew back into the capital to spend New Year’s Eve with the prince.
The US actress and her royal beau kept a very low profile before flying out for their week-long break on the edge of the Arctic Circle.
A pal said: “This relationship has moved at lightning speed and they are mad about each other.
"They speak all the time when they’re apart and count down the days until they see each other again.
“Friends have even talked about them getting married this year. It does seem very soon, but both of them have talked about it and are ready to settle down.
“Harry is determined to do everything possible to make this work.”
Meghan has already met Harry’s brother William and dad Charles, but has yet to meet William’s wife Kate.
That could happen next week, when both the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are in London for work.
Harry has no engagements scheduled for the next couple of weeks, leaving him free to see Meghan.
She won’t film the next series of Suits until the spring, but has charity commitments abroad this month.
Harry’s polar explorer friend — and Walking with the Wounded pal — Inge Solheim helped arrange the Norway trip and chose the secluded cabin for privacy rather than a luxury hotel.
Among places to stay near Tromso is the £2,000-a-week Tromvik Lodge, which offers panoramic lake views and includes three bedrooms, a sauna and whirlpool bath.
A trip to see the Northern Lights is one of the most romantic and spectacular holidays on Earth — and northern Norway is one of the best places to spot them
Experts agree this winter is one of the best sights of the lights for many years — and Harry and Meghan enjoyed a wonderful view.
Tuesday evening was clear with a spectacular meteor storm while, on Thursday, the green, purple and white lights of the corona seemed to be dancing across the night sky.
The Aurora Borealis occurs when particles from the Sun enter the Earth’s atmosphere and collide violently with gas atoms.
The electrically-charged particles are driven towards both the North and South Poles by our planet’s magnetic field and their varying colours are a result of different gases in the upper atomosphere.
The lights, which form an oval-shaped halo, are generally visible from late September to March, with 9pm to 2am prime viewing time.
Other places to see them include Lapland, Aslaka, Iceland and northern Canada.
The Aurora Borealis also has a southern hemisphere counterpart above Antarctica, known as the Aurora Australis. But the principal audience for that is penguins.
MEG: I FEAR RED CARPET
MEGHAN Markle has admitted to a secret dread — of walking the red carpet.
The LA-born actress, left, confessed she has never got over the fear of being snapped at film premieres or modelling shoots as she finds publicity daunting.
She said: “I don’t think they ever get comfortable. I think it’s a strange expectation even though people assume that as an actor you are comfortable modelling.
“The red carpet is like being a model but cameras are everywhere so you don’t know exactly where to look.
“And as women, we all have things that we’re self-conscious about.”
