Kate Middleton reveals the Queen is ‘very well’ as she makes first public outing in more than five weeks
The Queen has attended church at Sandringham today after missing services over Christmas and the New Year because of a heavy cold
THE Queen made her first public appearance in five weeks yesterday — delighting royal fans who were told she was “very well”.
Her Majesty, 90, attended church at Sandringham after shaking off the heavy cold which kept her in over Christmas.
She was joined by the Duke of Edinburgh, 95, as well as Wills and Kate, who had a weekend family party ahead of her 35th birthday today.
Asked by well-wishers how the Queen was feeling, Kate said after the hour-long service: “Very well, thank you.”
Her parents Mike and Carole, brother James, sister Pippa and her fiancé James Matthews joined the royals at St Mary Magdalene Church in Norfolk.
The Queen, dressed in royal blue with her legs wrapped in a matching blanket, was driven there with Prince Philip in her maroon Bentley. She was last seen in public on December 1 during a visit to Goodenough College, central London.
Fears for her health were then sparked after a heavy cold saw her miss traditional church services on Christmas Day and New Year’s Day.
Sources suggested she had a persistent “hacking cough” and did not want to disturb other worshippers.
But a crowd of around 250 people was overjoyed to see her arrive at the 16th-century church yesterday.
She walked unaided inside, although some remarked she looked “slightly more stooped” than usual.
Susie Allen, from nearby Dersingham, said: “The Queen looked lovely. I was hoping to see her and I am delighted that she was well enough to come to church.”
Alan Mowton, 57, of Fosdyke, Lincolnshire, added: “I think she looked quite well and pretty much recovered.”
Annie Balding, of Kettering, Northants, was also congratulated by Prince William after she told him she was celebrating her 70th birthday.
She said: “The Queen is incredible for a 90-year-old person who is still doing a full-time job.”
