Indian videomaker Sumit Raj, who uploads videos to his channel ‘The Crazy Sumit’, deleted video following online backlash with Delhi police now investigating
A VIDEOMAKER who kissed random girls on a street faces jail after the ‘prank’ clip came to the attention of police.
Sumit Raj – who uploads his videos to a YouTube channel called ‘The Crazy Sumit’ and has over 150,000 subscribers – named the clip ‘Funniest Indian YouTube prank of 2017’.
The video shows Sumit, from New Delhi in India, approaching girls walking down a street and going up to them before kissing them and running away.
The clip led to an online backlash and eventually caused him to take it down after which he uploaded an apology video, that was also taken down later, in which he said the video was for entertainment.
He also said he did not understand why it had upset so many people as the video had collected over 2,000 likes from viewers and had been shared around on social media, the reports.
However, officers from Delhi Police are not seeing the funny side of the video and have launched an investigation to examine the incidents which are believed to have taken place in the city’s Connaught Place.
Dependra Pathak, a spokesperson from the force, said: “The video has come to Delhi Police’s notice through media. We have started the initial technical inquiry.
“This obscene video is available on Facebook and YouTube links and we are probing this.”
Authorities say should the victims of his video seek police action, Sumit could be booked under the section 354 (assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty) of the Indian Penal Code.
In a picture uploaded to social media site Instagram three days ago, Sumit said: “Apologising for the kissing and running prank! I’m really sorry for this video! Not every idea works. I’m really sorry if I hurt anyone. I respect women and I’m really sorry, sorry for this. This will never happen again :-(“.
Swati Maliwalm, chief of the Delhi Commission for Women, slammed the video. She wrote on Twitter: “It’s perversion not humour.”
Sumit, who claims to work with Facebook, was condemned by internet users for his actions saying they were acts of sexual assault dressed up as humour.
Other videos on his channel include feature titles including; ‘Seducing Girl Prank (Gone Horribly Wrong )’ and ‘Seducing Girl Prank on DAD’.
