Man arrested on suspicion of murder after discovery of body, 50s, in Kildare apartment following violent incident
Investigators are not looking for anyone else in connection with the probe
A MAN has been arrested on suspicion of murder after a fatal assault at a premises in Kildare
The victim, in his 50s, died in violent circumstances at an apartment on School Street, in Kilcock, Co Kildare.
Investigators believe that the fatal attack occurred between 3pm and 4pm today.
A victim, a man in his 50s, was pronounced deceased at the scene.
A post-mortem examination will be conducted tomorrow morning at the mortuary at Naas General Hospital by State Pathologist Sally Ann Collis.
Another man, aged in his 40s, has been arrested on suspicion of murder as part of this investigation.
He is currently detained under the provisions of Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984 at a Garda Station in Kildare.
He was arrested shortly after the incident and it’s understood gardai are not looking for anyone else.
He can be detained for up to 24 hours.
An incident room has been established and a Senior Investigating Officer has been appointed.
The scene on remains preserved for examination by the Garda Technical Bureau and the State Pathologists Office has been informed of the incident.
The investigation is being led by a Senior Investigating Officer at Leixlip Garda Station.
A Garda Family Liaison Officer has been appointed to liaise with the family of the deceased.
Gardai are appealing for witnesses or anyone with information to come forward.

“A man in his 50s was pronounced deceased at the scene. His body remains at the scene. A post-mortem examination will be conducted tomorrow morning, Friday 9th February 2024, at the mortuary at Naas General Hospital by State Pathologist Sally Ann Collis.
“The scene on School Street remains preserved for examination by the Garda Technical Bureau.
“This investigation is being led by a Senior Investigating Officer (SIO) at Leixlip Garda Station and a Garda Family Liaison Officer (FLO) has been appointed to liaise with the family of the deceased.
“A man in his 40s has been arrested on suspicion of murder as part of this investigation. He is currently detained under the provisions of Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984 at a Garda Station in Kildare.
“Gardaí are appealing to any persons who were in the vicinity of School Street between 3pm and 4pm and observed any activity which drew their attention to come forward.
“Any road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) and were travelling in the vicinity of School Street between 3pm and 4pm are asked to make this footage available to Gardaí.
