Matted moggy who had 5lbs of tangled fur shorn off isn’t feeling his new look
Sinbad the cat was found in a Chicago basement and rescued from his owner before Christmas
A MATTED moggy who was discovered with a tangled coat weighing 5lbs after his elderly owner struggled to care for him has been given a new lease of life thanks to animal welfare rescuers.
Sinbad the cat had his fur shorn off and was given a short back and sides to help him get back to health.
The puss may look decidedly grumpy with his new look, but his shorter coat, and story of rescue is starting to get him an Instagram following.
Chicago's Anti-Cruelty Society, which discovered Sinbad, posted a shot of him on its site on Tuesday to show his fans the cat is on the mend after being brought in with a massive matted coat.
Colette Bradley, from the centre, assured his fans his glum expression was not an indication of how he was doing since being rescued.
She told : "As soon as that hair started coming off and he could walk, he started rubbing up against the people in the room.
“He was so affectionate and was looking for love in return. We were all shocked by how friendly he was considering he had such limited human interaction in his life prior to being rescued.”
Sinbad's fur was so heavy his back legs had atrophied as he couldn't walk around with the weight of his matted coat.
He was just 6.63 lbs when they gave him a coat cut - but he has now gone up to 7.25 lbs thanks to the tender loving care of staff at the shelter.
The puss was discovered living in a basement on the southside of Chicago and his owner gave him up as he was struggling to care for the moggy.
His coat was so bad he had to be shaved twice before they could get rid of all the filthy fur.
