Joanna Simpson’s killer Robert Brown ‘could strike again if released’, court warned

THE hammer killer of mother-of-two Joanna Simpson will strike again if he is released, a court was told yesterday.

Robert Brown, 60, was said to be a narcissist who had expressed no remorse.

The former BA pilot, who battered his estranged wife to death in 2010, has refused to take part in offender behaviour programmes in jail, it was claimed.

He was also described as “hostile, superior, defensive, dismissive and grandiose” towards professionals during the 13 years he has spent behind bars.

Ministry of Justice lawyer Iain Steele told the High Court there remained a significant risk he could cause serious harm, adding: “There could be a repeat of what happened before from an equivalent stress.”

It followed years of domestic abuse and was within a week of their divorce being finalised.

He was due to be freed from a 26-year sentence for manslaughter in November but his early release was blocked by Justice Secretary Alex Chalk.

Brown claims it was a political reaction to protests from MPs and pressure from The Sun’s .

His lawyer, Philip Rule KC, has told the court: “There was no open mind being applied.”

The judicial review at the High Court ended yesterday, with a decision expected later.
