Spells of wind and rain will buffet the west and north west of the country.

But today will be breezy with a blend of sunny spells and thundery showers.

Hail is expected to fall along with cold heavy rain, making for a soggy day.

The Environment Agency has issued 84 "expected" flood warnings and 286 "possible" flood alerts across England.

Experts said the upper Thames and other rivers across the south could burst their banks.

Groundwater flooding is also possible in the Malton area of North Yorkshire and in south Dorset.

There will be more rain tonight, particularly in southwest England - where it will also be windy.

Skies will clear elsewhere, letting frost and patchy fog settle as the wind dies down.

The mercury will hover around the annual average after nippy spells earlier this month.

Tomorrow should be somewhat drier, with showers petering out in the afternoon.

A band of rain will push across the south on Sunday - but the north will stay dry.

Monday will also be dry for most Brits, before rain and wind see out the month.
