Riot cops called in to deal with crazed dog after brutal attack as man rushed to hospital

RIOT cops were called into help subdue and transport a crazed dog after a brutal attack.

Officers were called after reports of a man being bitten by the animal at around 6.40pm on Friday.

Police attended and removed the dog from the property where it was held overnight.

A 40-year-old man was taken for treatment from the property, on Eagle Avenue in Auchterarder, before being released.

Today, cops escorted the dog from the town to Perth to be euthanised at Fair City Vets at around 12pm.

Two riot vans, a police van and a police dog unit arrived in convoy with lights and sirens coming down the city’s Glasgow Road heading into town.

Onlookers said they heard a dog barking in the back of the van.

It is not known what breed the animal was but police have said it wasn’t an XL Bully.

A witness said: “It appeared and sounded as though police were trying to a control a dog in the back of the police van, which had reversed in the car park at the front of the vets.

“A vet was also seen waiting to be able to administer treatment or injection to the dog.

“It also looked like officers were removing a dog into a court yard at the rear of the vets and then back into the van.

“Barking could be heard.”

Four officers appeared in riot gear with arm and leg protectors.

They were also carrying dog control poles and riot shields.

The onlooker added that officers remained outside the vet for three hours as they dealt with the animal.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 6.40pm on Friday, 23 February, 2024 we received a report of a man having been injured by a dog at an address on Eagle Avenue, Auchterarder.

“The 40-year-old man was taken to hospital for treatment and later released.

“The dog was removed from the property and taken to be euthanised.”
