A GUNMAN who waved a handgun at cops before sparking a dramatic police chase across London last night is still on the loose.

Armed cops had descended on Portland Rise, near Finsbury Park in North London at around 8.30pm yesterday evening before the stand-off.

A dramatic chase got underway after officers on patrol approached a suspicious car in the area.

Several people inside the vehicle fled as the cops approached, according to the .

The driver, who stayed in the car, then pulled out a gun – pointing it at the officers, it was reported.

Firearms units were called in and the car was chased down Seven Sisters Road before officers were able to “box in” the driver, according to eyewitness Nico Hogg.

After being sent crashing into a group of parked cars, the man jumped out and escaped on foot, reportedly leaving his weapon on one of the seats.

A spokesman for the Met Police said: "The vehicle was contained but the male driver fled the scene.

"A suspected firearm has been recovered from inside the vehicle.

"Enquires are ongoing. Searches to trace the male suspect continue.

"No arrests have been made and there are no reported injuries."

An eyewitness told the  "We heard lots of noise outside so we came to the window which is when we saw the police taping off the area directly below our flat.

"Then lots and lots of police cars came zooming past up and down Seven Sisters Road."

She added that the area was taped off while cops wearing gloves searched beneath cars.
