The contentious project connecting Russia with the recently annexed region of Ukraine is expected to be finished and fully operational by December 2018.

As well as constructing the railway line, Rotenberg’s company has also been given the green light to build the Kerch bridge, which it is planned to run across.

The group won the £236million bridge contract in February 2015 and announced it shortly afterwards.

But the railway line deal is only reported to have been finalised this week and is due to be announced this month, taking the company’s overall windfall to around £347million.
