BREXIT TRUMPED HILLARY

UK’s vote to leave EU was crucial to Donald Trump’s winning race to White House, says Nigel Farage

The former-UKIP leader has credited his long fight to leave the EU for Trump's win in the US Presidential elections

NIGEL Farage has insisted his Brexit fight played a key role in getting Donald Trump elected as US president.

The property billionaire would not have taken the White House if it wasn’t for the former UKIP leader’s long fight for an EU referendum, he said.

Mr Farage made the bold claim to documentary maker Michael Cockerell in a film for BBC2’s Newsnight.

Quizzed on whether the MEP played any part in Trump’s triumph, Mr Farage said: “If I speak to Trump’s team, close advisers and even to President Elect Trump himself, none of them think Trump would have won unless Brexit had happened”.

Mr Cockerell then pressed him: “So you helped make Donald Trump president?”

Mr Farage responded: “It wasn’t the direct object at the time of fighting for all those years for a referendum, but as a by-product it was part of it”.

The tycoon-turned-reality TV star – who takes over as President at 5pm GMT on Friday – also seized on Brexit as a parable for his campaign.

Trump predicted he would also overthrow the establishment in what would be “Brexit times five”.
