‘Runaway’ Jaguar EV driver who claimed brakes failed while careering down motorway at 90mph is arrested
THE driver of a "runaway" Jaguar EV driver who claimed his brakes "failed" on a busy motorway has been arrested.
Nine police cars had to box in the £32,000 Jaguar I-PACE after it reportedly accelerated to more than 90mph on the M62.
The driver said at the time he was "lucky to be alive" following the horrifying 35-minute "movie-style" ordeal.
Merseyside Police today revealed they had arrested a 31-year-old man on suspicion of dangerous driving and causing a public nuisance.
The driver was heading home from work at around 2.30pm when he claimed he noticed a battery fault in the motor.
But as he overtook another car, he claimed the brakes failed and all hell broke lose.

He recalled: "It just sped me up. It was going up to 80mph, 90mph. It was just going faster and faster.
"The button handbrake, neutral and reverse gears, nothing worked.
"I tried doing the cruise control on the steering wheel, it just wasn't happening."
The driver claimed he was forced to tear through red lights and over a slipway roundabout before careering on to the hard shoulder.

He managed to dial 999 and police told him to stay on the hard shoulder as they scrambled eight squad cars.
The officers intercepted his car - but he smashed into them as he was reportedly unable to stop.
Officers from Merseyside and Greater Manchester Police eventually used specialist tactics to ram the vehicle and block it in - bringing the pursuit to an end.
A Jaguar Land Rover spokesperson said last week: "Following the incident involving a Jaguar I-PACE on the M62 on the afternoon of 6th March, we are looking into this matter with urgency.
"A full review is underway to determine the cause of this incident, which is still yet to be established.
"The safety of our clients and vehicles is JLR's highest priority."
