A POLICE probe into the funeral parlour where 35 bodies were found is “the tip of the iceberg”, an undertaker has claimed.

Michael Fogg said cut-price, no-frills funerals turned the industry into the “Wild West”.

He spoke out after last weekend’s raid at Legacy Independent Funeral Directors in Hull.

The financially troubled outfit was charging well under the odds for cremations some of which, police believe, did not take place.

Mr Fogg, of Sheffield, said: “These types of cheap funerals are turning an already unregulated industry into the Wild West.

“You don’t have to have a premises to be a funeral director.

“You could set up a website and offer £1,200 funerals.

“No proper home can compete with that.

“It would be impossible.”

The Institute of Cemetery and Crematorium Management backs a system of licensing and parlour inspections.
