Tory MP blasts Donald Trumps White House for behaving like North Korea over inauguration crowd
Backbencher Johnny Mercer dubbed the spectacle as 'straight from Pyongyang'
A TORY MP has lampooned Donald Trump’s White House for behaving like North Korea.
Backbencher Johnny Mercer blasted an extraordinary first briefing to the Washington DC press corps over a bitter row about the size of the new President’s inauguration crowd.
The president’s spokesman Sean Spicer lambasted journalists on Saturday for correctly reporting numbers were well down on previous swearing ins.
Dubbing the spectacle as “straight from Pyongyang”, Army officer-turned-MP Mr Mercer added: “Day one; lost the plot”.
Mr Spicer also gaffed in his second White House briefing last night by wrongly saying Theresa May is Britain’s “head of state”, when that is the Queen.
The rows raise the stakes yet further for the PM’s Oval Office visit on Friday.
Downing Street continued planning yesterday for the most important visit any British Prime Minister has made to Washington DC in decades.
It emerged that the PM’s husband Philip May won’t accompany her on the trip, suggesting it will be firmly business-like.
Mrs May will also become the first foreign government boss to also address Republican congressmen at their annual retreat in Philadelphia.
