Teenage prisoner carried out 38 attacks on staff in seven months, report reveals
A TEENAGE prisoner carried out 38 attacks on staff in seven months, a report reveals.
His rampage came amid concerns last year for the stability of HMP Feltham A in West London, home to around 115 offenders aged 15-18.
An Independent Monitoring Board report said: “Assaults were peer-on-peer and on staff.
“Most violence is attributable to a small number of young persons with extremely challenging needs. One such person assaulted 38 members of staff in seven months.”
In May, dogs were introduced into Falcon unit, which houses inmates judged to be a risk to the rest of the prison, or who need to be separated for their own protection.
The dogs had a calming effect, but there was a rise in rooms wrecked and weapons found.

The report added: “There has been a rise in the use of improvised weapons, such as plugs in socks. In February, there was a three-on-one assault with a weapon made of a screw attached to a pencil.”
It said the stability of the institution was “concerning”, especially when August saw 18 incidents in a week.
But assaults have since halved.
