One of the sister's had not known she was adopted and initially thought the other was a scammer who had photoshopped her face onto another person’s body

A PAIR of identical twins who were separated at birth have been reunited after 30 years.

Sun Ye and Liu Yan, both born in 1991 in Shandong province, eastern China, were stunned to find they both shared the same haircut and had even named their son's Kevin during their mirrored lives.

The heartwarming story has sent the internet into a frenzy after the siblings appeared on a Shanghai television programme in March.

But despite being adopted by different families soon after they were born, only one of them knew they had a twin sister.

Sun Ye knew she was adopted from the age of seven but did not know she had a twin until she was 21.

And it wasn't until a decade later when she began a frantic search for her long lost sibling.

One of Liu's old neighbours had got in touch with Sun to send a link to Liu's Douyin (TikTok) account after noticing the pair looked incredibly similar, the report.

Sun immediately knew it was her sister and, with the help of a cousin from her adoptive family, managed to locate Liu from the details she provided in the videos on her account.

They went to what they believed was Liu’s workplace, only to be told that she had resigned.

However, they begged one of her former colleagues to give them the phone number of Liu’s best friend and sent her photos to show Liu had a twin sister.

Liu had not known she was adopted and initially thought Sun was a scammer who had photoshopped her face onto another person’s body.

But Liu’s aunt soon confirmed to her that she was adopted and does, in fact, have a twin.

The sisters, who live 90 minutes from each other, established communication soon after and met for the first time in March 2022.

Sun said that when they first met, she was stunned to be stood in front of someone who looked identical to her.

And to make things even more extraordinary, the sisters claim to share the same voice and fashion sense.

Sun and Liu said they immediately connected and took each other to their adoptive homes, and feel they now have a double family.

The sisters weren't done there, however, and went on to track down their birth parents, although it is not known why they chose to put them up for adoption.

Nonetheless, Sun and Liu said they are cherishing every “first moment” they have together following their reunion.

They have even opened two women’s clothing shops, which had been Liu’s dream before she met Sun.

The duo are also having some fun with their identical looks, playing pranks with their husbands and sons, as well as unlocking each other’s phones with facial recognition.

Speaking on the Shanghai television programme, Sun said: “How nice it would have been if we could have grown up together, but I hope we spend the rest of our lives happily from now on."

Their story has connected with people across social media amazed many, leaving some to claim the sisters were "destined" to be together.

A second commented: “They are destined to be together, no matter how long they have been apart."
