Little boy reportedly held by border control in Washington DC before being reunited with mum
A FIVE-YEAR-OLD boy was reportedly detained for several hours at an airport before he was reunited with his mum following President Donald Trump’s "extreme vetting" executive order.
The lad was apparently held by authorities after arriving from Iran with another family at Dulles International Airport in Virginia, near the US capital Washington D.C.
A report from Washington news channel shows a tearful woman, reportedly the child’s mum, embracing her son after waiting anxiously for the airport’s immigration control to release him.
Making matters worse for the boy, the ordeal happened on his birthday.
Hugging her son, the woman sang happy birthday in English.
But Donald Trump’s Press Secretary Sean Spicer defended the move.
He said: “To assume that just because of someone’s age and gender that they don’t pose a threat would be misguided and wrong.”
The White House move has provoked widespread outrage and sparked calls for Mr Trump’s planned state visit to the UK to be downgraded.
There have been widespread protests across America and in the UK.
The Prime Minister’s spokesman said Theresa May “disagreed” with the ban, but the planned state visit would not be affected by it, despite a petition to Parliament calling for it to be scrapped getting the backing of more than one-and-a-half million people.
