NIGEL Farage was lampooned in the European Parliament after a Labour MEP held up a cheeky sign behind his head.

Seb Dance wrote ‘he’s lying to you’ with an arrow pointing to the ex-Ukip boss after he accused EU leader of “anti-Americanism”.

It was during a raucous session in Brussels as Mr Farage mounted an impassioned defence of Donald Trump's controversial travel ban on a series of mainly Muslim countries.

He said the new US president, with whom he is now close, was simply trying to protect his country from Islamist terrorists.

In a blast to the European bosses, he added: "All Donald Trump has done is taken 7 countries that were identified by President Obama as posing a risk to the USA."

The 52-year-old challenged his fellow MEPs to invite Mr Trump to come and address them in an "open dialogue" or expose themselves to be the "anti-democratic zealots" he had always suspected them to be.

But as he spoke, Mr Dance could clearly be seen on camera sitting behind him brandishing the notice, as the proceedings were broadcast live.

Mr Farage fails to notice the crudely-drawn A4 sign, and eventually an usher comes to speak to the Labour politician to ask him to stop holding it up.

Labour MP Stella Creasy seemed to enjoy the stunt, tweeting: “Good on London MEP Seb Dance for calling out Nigel Farage for his use of 'alternative facts' - trump not a model for British representation!”

But not everyone was so pleased about it, with his Ukip MEP colleague Bill Etheridge calling it “pathetic and cowardly”.

He tweeted: “Disgusting behaviour by Labour MEP holding defamatory sign up behind Nigel Farage as he spoke today.”

Mr Etheridge also filed an official complaint to the European Parliament about the protest - complaining officials didn’t take it seriously and “failed to remove him until the end of the speech”
