Group of Brit pupils trapped inside Louvre are ‘safe’ after terror suspect ‘stabbed’ soldier in terrifying Paris attack
Godalming College sent message to frantic parents following news of the attack this morning
A GROUP of British students was caught up in a terrifying machete attack on The Louvre gallery, it has been confirmed.
Pupils of Godalming College were in the iconic Paris gallery when the knifeman was shot by a soldier after he tried to stab him.
Sixth-form students of the Surrey college were among hundreds of terrified tourists rushed into a locked basement.
Art history A-level student Yonas Campbell, 17, said 60 of his pupils were in the gallery that houses the world famous Mona Lisa.
The youngster had missed out on the trip, but said: "I'm completely shocked I had no idea what happened and having the two girls who sit on my table, they both went on the trip, we are very close.
"So my immediate thought was whether they were okay, so it's good to hear that they are okay but I'm completely shocked to find out that the attack almost happened on people that I know and that are so close to me."

A statement from the school said: "Godalming College can confirm that a group of students and staff, who are in Paris on a History of Art trip, were at the Louvre this morning at the time of the incident.
"We are pleased to report that all the students and staff are safe.
"The College are in constant communication with the Trip Organisers, who are following advice of the local authorities and the Foreign Office.
"We have provided updates to parents."
In a letter published by , the college earlier told frantic parents: "We wanted to let you know that we have been in contact with the Trip Leaders and that all the students and staff are together, safe, and are following advice from security services.
"They are being kept all together in an area of the museum at the moment.
"From what we are able to glean at this early stage it appears to be an isolated incident."
