Dramatic footage showed a massive orange inferno at the Pervyy Zavod refinery following reports of several drones flying overhead.

Moscow Mayor Sergey Sobyanin claimed a drone flying toward the Russian capital had been downed in Moscow Oblast, as three more drones were allegedly destroyed in Bryansk Oblast.

Three tanks containing diesel fuel, and one tank containing fuel oil, were said to have been set alight.

The region's governor Vladislav Shapsha reported about 7am local time (5am UK time) that the fire had been extinguished and that no one had been injured.

Ukraine is said to be targeting Russian oil refineries in an attempt to cut off fuel supplies to the Russian military, and to diminish the export revenues the Kremlin uses to fund its war in Ukraine.

Russian media confirmed that a fire broke out at the Pervyy Zavod oil refinery in Kaluga Oblast following an overnight drone crash.

Ukrainian drones attacked the same oil refinery on March 14, at the time sparking another fire and damaging equipment at the facility.

The latest blitz comes after near the £3billion bridge linking Crimea to Russia.
