VIOLENCE again flared between youths and riot police on the streets of Paris last night after cops allegedly 'raped' a black youth worker with a truncheon.
Twenty-four arrests were made in the capital's north east suburbs as cars burned following allegations of the rape.
Named only as Theo, 22, the victim required surgery after the truncheon was allegedly forced into his anus by one of four officers bundling him to the ground.
One has since been charged with rape while the other three have been hit with charges of deliberate violence.
The incident last Thursday sent a wave of revulsion around the Aulnay-sous-Bois estate that continued last night.
Many of those rioting labelled the alleged assault as racist in nature.
As trouble erupted, one cop said: "The violence has been appalling.
"Cars and dustbins were set on fire, and there were attacks on police patrols."
Theo appeared on TV last night, saying an officer rammed his baton "into my buttocks on purpose. I fell onto my stomach, I had no strength left".
Police argue that his injuries are consistent with an accident, in which his tracksuit bottoms fell down and the baton penetrated him.
He also suffered injuries to the head and face.
A member of Theo's family said: "He was there at the wrong time."
The local prosecutor's office said police had stopped a group of around a dozen people "after hearing calls characteristic of lookouts at drug dealing sites".
During the operation they "attempted to arrest a 22-year-old man".
When he resisted, they used tear gas, and "one of them used an expandable baton".
