GIVE HER A HAND

Theresa May cracks joke about Donald Trump’s big hands as she flogs signed copy of big Brexit speech for £120k to Tory donor

PM mocked the photo of her hand in hand with the President at the Tory Black and White Ball

THERESA May cracked a joke about Donald Trump’s "big hands" as she auctioned a signed copy of last month's big Brexit speech for an eye-watering £120,000 to a rich Tory donor.

Thanking a cheering crowd of loaded backers at the annual Tory Black and White Ball last night, the PM said she hadn’t had “such a big hand” since her visit to the White House.

Donald Trump controversially grabbed Mrs May's hand during their walkabout in Washington DC last month, but the President has previously been mocked for his tiny mitts.

Mr Trump is unlikely to appreciate the joke , after being branded a “short-fingered vulgarian” by critics in the 1980s.

And last year Florida senator Marco Rubio teased Mr Trump on the campaign trail over his unusually small hands.

Mrs May took to the stage to shake the tin at the party’s annual fundraiser hosted in n Battersea, South West London.

At the same time opposition MPs were in the Commons demanding more clarity on her EU divorce plans, a signed copy of Mrs May’s big Brexit speech from last month was flogged for for an eye-watering £120,000 to a rich Tory donor.

A copy of her speech to US politicians in Philadelphia two weeks ago was also sold for £80,000 to line party coffers.

With Parliament sitting beyond midnight, Tory HQ were forced to lay on a minibus to shuttle Cabinet Ministers and MPs from the fundraiser in Battersea Park back to Westminster for a slew of Brexit votes.

But the PM managed to make a brief turn at the bash, spotted later in voting in the Commons in smart black evening wear.

The annual Ball - rebranded this year as a party -  swells Conservative HQ coffers but it has generated controversy in the past after auction lots included bank internships and a tennis game with the PM.

In 2015 Theresa May auctioned off a shoe shopping session with herself, but a ban on selling Ministers' time was put in place this year amid fears of “cash for access” allegations.

However villa holidays, shooting weekend and a behind the scenes experience at the filming of next year's John Lewis advert were still up for grabs.

For the first time ever Mrs May allowed hard working Tory activists to attend the party at a discount rate in a bid to champion her “just about managing” agenda.

Guests dined on smoked duck and pan-fried seabass, as well as a "just about managing" Bakewell tart for pudding.

And they washed it down with sparkling English wine from Sussex and Chablis and Cru Bourgeois claret.
