KEIR Starmer insisted he had plenty of energy for the election trail as Tories branded him “Sir Sleepy”.
The Labour chief rubbished claims of weariness as “desperate” — and said he had been working flat out on election plans since January.
In Lancing, West Sussex, Sir Keir said: “I’ve had a smile on my face since January 1 because I knew this was an election year.
“I’ve wasted nine years in opposition.
"I’ve worked four-and-a-half years to change this Labour Party, and now I’ve got the chance to take that to the country.
“So we’re doing that not only with energy, but with a smile, with positivity across our candidates as we go into this election.”

Tories coined the “Sir Sleepy” nickname when Starmer, 61, who is 17 years older than PM Rishi Sunak, 44, disappeared from the campaign trail on Sunday.
Conservative sources appeared to take issue with his age, adding: “It’s understandable he may be weary.
On the claims, Sir Keir said: “They are just so desperate.
"They are rummaging in the toy box.”

Starmer also refused to rule out raising tuition fees from £9,000 a year.
He said he considered himself a “socialist” despite ditching all 10 of the pledges he made in his bid to replace Jeremy Corbyn.
