Karen Matthews ‘dreamed of having Kate Winslet play her in film blockbuster about kidnap plot’
KIDNAPPER Karen Matthews once claimed she "dreamed" of having Kate Winslet play her in a blockbuster film about her life.
Matthews was jailed for eight years for her part in faking the kidnap of her daughter in 2008.
She allegedly told relatives that she believed she would make a fortune from a book, which she titled Karen Matthews: The Truth.
A relative said: "She reckons it will be a best-seller and that she will make a fortune from it. She’s crazy and reckons that Kate Winslet should play her if it was made into a film.
"Except that she didn’t know her name and just kept saying ‘they should get her off Titanic to play me. She’d be great’.
"That would be a laugh. You could really see Kate swanning to Dewsbury to research the role and popping in Greggs for a sausage roll."
The disgraced mum has allegedly said she is fearing for her life after a TV drama about the fake kidnapping of her daughter Shannon in Dewsbury, West Yorks, aired this week.
The vile mum of seven was bombarded with death threats after BBC drama The Moorside starring Sheridan Smith was watched by seven million people on Tuesday.
The new drama retells the story of Shannon’s abduction and follows the search efforts to find the young girl.
She allegedly told a pal: "I cannot go out of the door. I’m frightened out of my life. I’m shaking like a leaf. I’m s*** scared to even get any shopping or anything."
After The Moorside aired, Karen Matthews was exclusively pictured working at a charity shop.
She was seen looking downcast the day after the drama ended.
Shannon's best friend has also appeared on This Morning and said she missed her pal who she has not seen for nine years.
Callie Brown said not having seen Shannon for years had created “a hole in [her] heart”.
