LIBS EU-TURN

Britain will ride back into clutches of EU and open borders under Liberal Democrat plans

The manifesto also calls for giving EU citizens in the UK the right to vote in elections

BRITAIN will ride back into the clutches of the European Union and open borders under Liberal Democrat plans announced yesterday.

Sir Ed Davey rode on rollercoasters at a theme park after his party laid out plans to surrender our country’s Brexit freedoms by signing up to the single market.

The 116-page manifesto document details how they want to put the relationship with Brussels on a more “formal and stable” footing.

Joining the Single Market — which allows for the free movement of goods, capital and people — would be a stepping stone to re-joining the EU, the party says.

It also calls for giving EU citizens in the UK the right to vote in Parliamentary elections and referendums.

And non-EU citizens would be given the right to vote in national and local elections after five years.

Sir Ed took his campaign to the Thorpe Park theme park, in Surrey, on the 50mph Rush ride — which swings 75ft high.

He also boarded Colossus — the first ten-loop coaster — the Tidal Wave log flume and a teacup ride.

The stunt comes after he went paddle-boarding in the Lake District and on a waterslide in Somerset.

But Tory Cabinet Minister Steve Barclay said: “Giving foreigners the right to vote is nothing more than a plot to take the UK back into the EU by stealth.”

He added: “At least the Lib Dems are open about their intentions to reverse Brexit.

“Labour have persistently shown they too want to drag us closer to Brussels and have already fiddled the ballot box in Wales to help them.

“A vote for the Lib Dems is a vote to put Keir Starmer in Downing Street.”
