Son of Frank Sidebottom creator Chris Sievey killed in horror crash while cycling in Manchester

Musician Harry Sievey, 24, died in hospital after being critically injured in a collision with another cyclist and a car on Sunday

THE SON of Frank Sidebottom creator Chris Sievey has died in hospital following a crash in Withington, south Manchester.

Tributes have flooded in for Harry Sievey, 24, who was critically injured in a collision with another cyclist and a Vauxhall Corsa at around 10.15pm on Sunday.

The 24-year-old, who was a musician, has been described by distraught friends as a “beautiful creative ball of energy”.

Pal Karl Asburty wrote on Facebook: “Rest in peace Harry Sievey.

“Beautiful creative ball of energy, whenever I saw you, you always made me smile. The world is a sadder place. X.”

Danny Sutherland shared a video of Harry, saying: “RIP Harry Sievey.

“One of the most interesting and sporadic people I’ve ever met.

“You lived life to the full and I have no doubt you’ll make everyone laugh as much as you made me laugh wherever you are. X.”

His friend Nick Kettle posted: “RIP mate I’ll always remember how sick you were on a skateboard when we were younger.

“And always a nice guy I don’t think I know anyone who has ever had a bad word to say about you.”

Harry’s dad Chris Sievey died after battling cancer in 2010, and a bronze statue of his legendary comic character Frank Sidebottom – papier mâché head included – has been erected in Timperley village, Trafford, in his memory.

Devoted son Harry took part in a massive fundraising effort for the statue, performing with his band Mask to help raise money.

Speaking to the at the time, Harry said his dad had “really put the little town of Timperley on the map”.

He added: “Now he’s gone it would be nice to have something still there that recognises that.

“He was really happy with what he had done in his life but obviously he still had so much more to give.

“It’s nice to have the opportunity to keep giving for him, to keep adding to that legacy.”

Hundreds of messages have poured in following the tragic news of Harry’s death.

Friend Faye Catherine wrote: “Harry, you made lots of people smile and laugh.

“Once or twice at my own expense. And most of all you were so blessed with talent.

“I feel for everyone, you will be greatly missed. Take it easy up there. Xx.”

Dan Poole said: “Rest in peace mate. Hope you’re having a beer with your dad, no doubt everyone will be raising a glass to you tonight x.”

Phil Gardner added: “Mega gutted about the news regarding Harry Sievey. Big loss to friends, family and Timperley. #RIP.”

Former Timperley councillor Neil Taylor, who was chair of the Frank Sidebottom statue, said the news has come as a “huge shock” for locals.

Paying tribute to the 24-year-old, he said: “Harry had so much going for himself, talented and funny, thoughts are with family and friends.

“Taken from us far too young.”
