From Uganda and Russia to Germany and COLCHESTER, the places around the world where cases of cannibalism are still recorded today
COP killer Stefano Brizzi shocked the country when news emerged of his crazed plot to murder and eat PC Gordon Semple at a central London flat last year.
Dubbed the Breaking Bad murderer after he tried to dissolve part of his victim's body in acid, evil Brizzi, 50, was found dead in his jail cell just weeks into his life sentence.
But while his twisted crime rightly appalled the nation, around the world cannibalism is still rife.
Here we look at some of the locations where a warped cannibal would be pleased to meat you.
Germany
In December ex-policeman Detlev Guenzel was found guilty for the second time of murdering and eating a politician.
The cannibal, who posed naked holding an axe next to a skeleton in his dungeon, spent five hours chopping up the body Wojciech Stempniewicz.
The victim’s penis and one testicle were never found, but the rest of his dismembered corpse was discovered in flowerbeds in Guenzel’s garden.
Detectives insisted Stempniewicz – who went under the name of ‘LongpigHeszla’ on sick websites devoted to torture and bondage – was killed and partially eaten by police forensic specialist Guenzel at his lonely home in mountains near Dresden.
Stempniewicz nursed twisted fantasies of being killed and eaten and trawled the internet for an entire year before he found a willing predator on the Zambian Meat website — the same forum where German cannibal Armin Meiwes found his willing prey back in 2001.
Meiwes, now 43, became one of the most famous cannibals in history when he killed and ate Bernd Brandes “with his permission”.
Computer programmer Brandes had earlier posted an advert online offering prospective cannibals “the chance to eat me alive”.
On the night in question Meiwes and Brandes had sex in an isolated farmhouse before the latter took sleeping pills washed down with alcohol.
Meiwes then cut off Brandes’ penis and fried it for them both to eat, before the latter spent the night barely conscious in the bath.
After reading a Star Trek novel, Meiwes killed Brandes by stabbing him in the neck and cutting him into pieces – all of which he caught on film.
He then buried Brandes’ head in the garden and kept the rest of the “meat” in the freezer, which he ate periodically before being caught by police in 2002.
Florida
Frat boy and alleged cannibal killer Austin Harrouff is accused of attacking a couple and chewing on the dead man’s face.
He was charged for brutally murdering John Stevens and Michelle Mishcon at their home Jupiter, Florida, on August 15 last year.
Prosecutors released startling images which show the 19-year-old student being handcuffed and taken away by police and with his mouth hanging open.
In one chilling picture, it looks like he has something stuck on his teeth.
There are also photos of a bloody knife and pair of scissors and images showing splatters inside the house.
Harrouff reportedly told deputies, “Help me, I ate something bad” before admitting it was “humans”.
It was then he spat out the piece of flesh, court documents showed.
He then pleaded with officers to kill him, saying: “Shoot me now, I deserve to die.”
He is still to stand trial.
In Miami, crazed, naked man was shot by police in 2012 as he refused to stop eating his victim’s face.
Cannibal Rudy Eugene set upon unwitting Ronaldo Poppo on a Florida freeway, leaving him with only one eye and severe facial injuries.
Brazil
Cannibalistic inmates at a Brazilian jail rocked by murderous infighting between drugs gangs bragged about barbecuing human flesh in a recent sick video.
Horrifying footage shows prisoners gloating as they claim to be showing off pieces of meat on a skewer over a bonfire.
They boast they were toasting the remains of a rival and those claiming to be gorging on flesh don’t even bother to hide their faces.
The prisoners filmed preparing their barbecue were said to belong to an Amazon drug gang called the Family of the North and a Rio de Janeiro-based drugs gang called the Red Command.
The man whose meat they claimed to be barbecuing was said to be a member of the Sao Paulo-based PCC or First Capital Command which kept the peace for years with the Red Command before their loose alliance fell apart last year, resulting in a spate of prison killings.
One of the bare-chested inmates pictured in the video, who made no attempt to hide his face, shouted out repeatedly: “Churrasco do PCC” - Portuguese for “PCC Steak.”
Another, who was brandishing a machete-style knife and had several front teeth missing, said: “And this is only the beginning.”
Pointing towards the meat on a skewer, he added: “Today it was us and they paid.”
One of the men even made a V for Victory sign to the mobile phone being used to film the scene.
Russia
Two cannibals who raped a 31-year-old woman in a Siberian sauna before killing her and eating her at a party were jailed for 12 years in October.
Kirill Nemykin and Sergey Metlyayev, from Novokuznetsk, reportedly invited Nadezhda Avakumova to a sauna where they took turns to have sex with her in 2014.
Police told the court that she later threatened to report both men for rape, as “she did not realise what was happening” because she was drunk.
The court heard the pair then beat her up and locked her in an underground storage cellar at the home of one of the men – where she was initially “quiet” but started “banging, screaming and pleading for help”.
According to a local news website, Kirill Nemykin then got a big knife from the table, opened the cellar, and when the woman attempted to escape he grabbed her hair and plunged a knife in her throat.
The victim reportedly died almost immediately, before the pair cut her up and cooked her, serving the meat to friends at a macabre party.
Colchester, Essex
Punk rocker Dave Playpenz cooked and ate his own finger after it had to be amputated.
He lost the digit after a motorbike accident.
Surgeons had to remove the finger and part of Dave’s hand after it turned black.
But rather than throw the finger away, the bondage furniture maker asked to take it home after his op.
Dave, from Colchester, Essex, said: “It had been kept in the same fridge where the nurses stored the milk for their tea.”
Dave, who admits being curious about cannibalism, said he then thought of eating his own finger and keeping the bones.
He said: “I’d always wondered what human flesh tastes like. But it’s taboo.
“People can’t go around being cannibals – that’s illegal.
"Only then, it occurred to me that no one could haul me to court for eating my own flesh.
“I decided to cook it and taste it. Then my curiosity would be satisfied.”
Uganda
Militia leader Dominic Ongwen is currently on trial in The Hague for war crimes in Uganda.
The former child soldier who rose through the ranks of Joseph Kony's twisted army is accused of ordering his troops to kill and eat civilians.
Meanwhile last November four men were reportedly caught boiling a human head in the village of Kiboga last year.
