Theresa May grimaces as schoolgirl shows her a Lego robot during Copeland by-election visit
The prime minister dropped a brick as pupils proudly demonstrated clever turtle-saving invention
THERESA May drops a brick on a visit to a primary school — appearing horrified as a girl proudly shows off her Lego robot.
The Prime Minister was snapped grimacing as she sat with Year Six pupils at Captain Shaw's CE Primary School in Bootle, Cumbria.
She pulled a face as the children explained their award-winning robot made as part of the First Lego League competition.
One girl described how they created an invention for use in cities to prevent "turtles getting run over and falling down drains" and try to get them back into the sea.
But Mrs May didn't look too impressed as the youngster demonstrated the clever gadget.
She was in Cumbria supporting Tory candidate Trudy Harrison in next week's Copeland by-election.
And she nearly had another photo op clanger as the two women tried to squeeze through a narrow school gate at the same time.
The PM — wearing gold-tipped shoes — managed to skip out of trouble just in time.
The Conservatives hope to nick the Copeland seat from Labour after sitting MP Jamie Reed quit to take a job at the local Sellafield nuclear processing plant.
Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn has "given up" on retaining the seat after canvas returns showed 30 per cent of voters had deserted the party.
School visits seem to be risky territory for Tory Prime Ministers after Mrs May's predecessor David Cameron also ended up in a funny photo at the 2015 general election.
Six-year-old Lucy Howarth upstaged him by planting her head on the table during a campaign press event at Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Primary School in Westhoughton, near Bolton.
