Yosemite Instagram pic captures rare phenomenon in which waterfall appears to be spewing LAVA

Stunning natural wonder can be seen for a short time every year and occurs when setting sun's rays hit the waterfall at exactly the right angle

A WATERFALL appears to be spewing lava in Yosemite National Park, California.

The phenomenon happens for a short time every year, and has been captured in an incredible Instagram picture by the US Department of the Interior.

Visitors flock to see the famous Horsetail Fall, which turns fiery orange as it flows down the side of the El Capitan cliff face.

It happens when the setting sun's rays hit the waterfall at exactly the right angle, making the water appear bright red and orange.

If conditions are perfect, it can be seen for several days in February if the conditions are perfect.
