A PAIR of traffic wardens were being investigated last night after being discovered SLEEPING in a car in a permit-only space.

The two civil enforcement officers were caught napping for around 50 minutes in their branded Lambeth Council parking services Ford Fiesta.

Stunned locals spotted the uniformed workers slumbering on an estate in Clapham, south London, on Tuesday where motorists need a permit to park.

In a possible data breach one of them was dozing with a list of handwritten and printed details clearly on view.

The one minute 50 seconds film was recorded by local Mitchell Krishnan, 54, who saw them bed down at 4.30pm before they woke and left at 5.20pm.

He has complained to Lambeth Council who have contracted their parking enforcement to firm APCOA.

Mitchell said: “If they found someone else doing that, they’d give them a ticket.

“They’ve clearly tucked themselves away there so they can skive from work and have a siesta.

“They were there for at least 50 minutes, and since there’s two of them, that’s nearly two hours of government paid time in a government vehicle.

“This is where these officers come to penalise myself and my neighbours.

“These officers are constantly penalising us for the silliest of things - we’re getting battered financially by these wardens.

“They never woke up, even when I was right outside taking pictures of them.

“Then I went inside and rang Lambeth Council’s complaints team.

“I then went back down there and they were still sleeping So I took more pictures. This was almost an hour later.

“I could even see their charter for the day as to where they’ve been and what they’ve done - and that’s a breach of confidentiality as far as the public’s concerned.”

Figures released by motoring group RAC Foundation show Lambeth raked in £9.9million profit in the 2015 to 2016 financial year.

APCOA won the eight-year £27million contract with Lambeth Council in October 2016 and said their role would extend beyond parking tickets to fines for littering and other offences.
