Stunned Flybe passenger captures heart-stopping moment engine shut down mid-flight forcing plane into emergency landing
Flight BE783 from Glasgow to Birmingham has had to return to Scotland

A FLYBE plane has had to make an emergency landing in Glasgow after an engine was shut down as a safety precaution while battling intense gusts from Storm Doris.
Flight BE783 from Glasgow to Birmingham had to return to Scotland after the dramatic mid-air emergency this morning.
Passenger John MacInnes tweeted about the incident as the flight began returning to Glasgow.
He wrote: "Oh s***. Number one engine has failed and wee're returning to Glasgow for an emergency landing."
Mr MacInnes later wrote: "Down safe n' sound thanks to the professionalism of our pilots.
"Excellent flying from I believe two Former RAF pilots."
A Flybe spokeswoman said: "Flybe can confirm that the above flight returned to Glasgow airport following a technical fault that resulted in the captain electing to shut down the number one engine as a safety precaution.
"The pilot followed all required procedures and the aircraft landed safely without incident.
"The Bombardier Q400 aircraft is designed to continue flying safely with one of its engines shut down but, as is standard procedure, the aircraft was met by the airport’s emergency service vehicles. All 46 passengers disembarked as normal when the aircraft arrived on stand.
"The safety of its passengers and crew is the airline’s number one priority and the airline apologises for any inconvenience experienced."
As Storm Doris continues to intensify, cameras have also caught the horrifying moment a passenger plane is battered by intense gusts as it tries to land at Leeds Bradford Airport this morning.
As the plane begins its descent, it can be seen being turned sideways by gusts.
Thankfully the pilot manages to pull off the awkward landing by turning the nose of the plane straight just moments before it touches the runway.
Today commuters are being warned not to make unnecessary journeys with widespread reports of flights being grounded and speed limits imposed on trains.
