Met Police officer pleads guilty to stealing £115 from dead actor’s wallet after he died of a heart attack while cycling
Carter admitted money was taken while in police evidence
A MET Police officer today admitted stealing money from a dead actor after he collapsed of a heart attack while cycling.
Disgraced Craig Carter took £115 from Italian filmmaker Claudio Gaetani, 45, following the tragedy which saw him lay dying on the street in September 2022.
The 51-year-old cop, from Harlow, Essex, admitted the cash was stolen from Claudio’s wallet while it was “in evidence” between September 7 and September 14.
Carter today arrived at Wood Green Crown Court, north London, where he hid his face behind a Covid-style mask and sunglasses.
He pleaded guilty to misconduct in public office.
Thief Carter has been granted bail ahead of his sentencing at the same court on September 13.
Judge Daniel Fugallo, who also ordered a pre-sentence report said: “I have to make absolutely clear that an immediate custodial sentence seems the likely outcome in this case.
“Neither the ordering of the report nor the fact that I am granting you bail should be taken as any indication to the type of sentence you will receive.”
Carter, who is based with the Met’s North Area Command Unit covering Enfield and Haringey, was previously suspended.
