Britain First supporters clash with anti-fascist protesters in Telford as cops arrest three for disorder
More than 150 members from the far-right group, including one in Donald Trump mask, marched through town
THREE men were arrested when Britain First members clashed with anti-fascist protesters today in a Midlands town.
More than 150 members of the far-right group - including one in a Donald Trump mask - marched through Telford.
A massive police presence was visible as a counter Unite Against Fascism demonstration was staged close to the Britain First event.
Its leader Paul Golding and his deputy Jayda Fransen joined protesters who listened to speeches filled with anti-Muslim rhetoric and claims 'grooming gangs' have been covered up by the authorities.
Supporters waved Union Jack flags and sang 'Rule Britannia' during the march.
Tonight West Mercia Police confirmed three men who belonged to the Unite Against Fascism protest had been arrested, including a 27-year-old man from Gloucester detained on suspicion of affray after a woman aged in her 50s was injured by a missile.
A police spokesperson said: "She received medical treatment at the scene and has since been discharged."
The force confirmed a 29 year-old man from Selly Oak, Birmingham, was arrested on suspicion of a breach of Section 14 of the Public Order Act.
A 64-year-old man from Telford was also arrested on suspicion of breach of the peace.
Superintendent Tom Harding said: "We have been engaging with both organisers of the demonstrations to ensure the event was safe for those taking part and the local community.
"We planned a proportionate policing response to ensure a peaceful event with minimal disruption.
"For the vast majority of those involved this was the case.
"However disorder broke out before and during the march which saw three arrests take place.
"This was a very highly emotive and sensitive situation and public safety - for those involved in the event and others caught up in it - must always remain our priority in such incidents.
"We will continue to engage with the community over any concerns and work with our partners to address any issues."
