The video also shows a machine gun being used from a fixed position, with the Ukrainian soldiers working their way through the partially destroyed buildings and firing from them.

The images were obtained from the 8th Special Purpose Regiment on Thursday August 1, with a statement saying: "Toretsk direction. The Special Operations Forces (SSO) are at work.

"Groups from the 8th Separate Regiment have halted a Russian breakthrough to one of the settlements.

"The occupiers are counting their losses, while we continue to work."

The fighting occurred near Toretsk, in the Bakhmut Raion of the Donetsk Oblast region, in eastern Ukraine.

It comes as a reminder of Kyiv's innovation and willingness to try surprise tactics against Putin's relentless invasion.

It was earlier reported that a Ukraine drone took down a Russian spy device with a stick.

A video spreading on social media claimed to have shown vision from a Ukrainian First Person View (FPV) drone stalking the Russian unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) with a long stick in the skies over Kherson Oblast in the war-torn country's south.

When it approached the Russian reconnaissance drone - flown for surveillance and intelligence - it used the stick to strike its motor.

It repeatedly whacks the enemy flying object over a 30-second attack until the engine is disabled, knocking it out of action.

The Russian surveillance devices are deployed to locate Ukrainian units, helping coordinate attacks.

Fighting in Kherson has been fierce - it was the first city to fall to the invaders in 2022, who blitzed in from Crimea, before being liberated nine months later.

Although it is no longer occupied, the city is regularly pounded by drone and artillery strikes.

It comes after Vladimir Putin's supersonic fighter bomber crashed on the ground in the latest humiliation blow.

The charred chassis of SU-34 could be seen burning in Russia's Volgograd region with plumes of smoke rising to the sky.

The video from the scene shows the smouldering wreckage lying in the Serafimovichsky district of Volgograd region.

It was unclear if the plane had been on a mission linked to the Ukraine war.

The Russian defence minister confirmed the crash and said it was likely caused by a “technical malfunction” during a training flight.

Putin has lost an estimated three dozen Su-34s since he started a war against Ukraine in 2022.

Mad Vlad's prized Su-34 planes, also designed for precise and brutal bombings, are thought to cost around £40million.

The crash came following a remarkable kamikaze drone strike by Ukraine on the Russian military airbase Olenya, located above the Arctic Circle.

Putin recently faced another humiliating defeat in the African state of Mail after dozens of Russian mercenary fighters from Wagner group were killed in a massacre.

A convoy with the Russian private army was ambushed by separatist rebels in Mali.

Graphic footage depicts the horror scenes of the carnage.

Amateur videos posted on social media showed the corpses of multiple white men and Mali troops strewn over the ground next to wrecked cars.

Russian mercenaries were killed in a surprise attack by Tuareg separatists on the outskirts of Tinzawaten village.

A Wagner Mi-24 helicopter was also downed during the ambush, Russian accounts say.
