Jonathan Chow planned to land on a ledge on the other side of the safety barrier but it collapsed under his weight, a pal said
A TEEN has died after trying to leap over a safety barrier in a risky stunt for a Snapchat video.
Jonathan Chow, 17, jumped over the railing at a Singapore shopping centre hoping to land safely on a ledge just beneath him, the reports.
But the ledge couldn’t support Chow’s weight and he fell through the plasterboard material to his death four floors below, according to local news outlet Today.
His friend, Ruth, who wouldn't give her full name, told Today: “We both thought the ledge was made of concrete but when he jumped, he fell straight through.
“I knew it was dangerous – but before I could stop him he already jumped over.”
She said Chow came up with the idea for the stunt while they were clothes shopping.
Ruth told how the tragic daredevil told her: “Help me take a Snapchat video and I’ll jump.”
CCTV footage appears to show the two talking near the railing.
Chow’s female companion can then be seen reacting in horror as he plummets to his death.
She said: “I swear I wanted to jump over too but I knew it was too late.”
