Bizarre moment ‘drunken’ couple writhe helplessly in the mud after falling into river to ‘rescue bottle of wine’

A PAIR of revellers were left floundering in the mud for 45 minutes after falling into a river because they reportedly were trying to rescue a bottle of wine.

The man and a woman were seen struggling in the sludge at low tide today outside the Cornish Mutual office in Newham, Truro, Cornwall.

Truro Fire Station crew manager Tom Randle said: "The risk of mud in Truro is considerable here so we're looking into intensive training and equipment to deal with these ever increasing incidents.

";In this situation it was just a case of getting a ladder down to them. It took some time as they were obviously intoxicated."

The pair were  wrapped in hypothermia blankets and taken away for treatment by an ambulance.

Earlier this week a row erupted on a train after drunken revellers repeatedly placed a BAGEL on a train passenger's head.

Police boarded the rowdy train and held it at Potters Bar yesterday after three fights broke out in the same train carriage.
