David Cameron lunches with Sir John Major just hours after the former PM’s ‘disloyal’ Brexit attack

Their lunchtime meeting followed Sir John’s speech that slammed their successor Theresa May’s 'cheap rhetoric'

DAVID Cameron had a very public lunch with Sir John Major just hours after the ex-PM’s incendiary attack on Brexit.

The former PMs were spotted at a Michelin-starred restaurant in posh Belgravia on Tuesday, according to the EyeSpyMP Twitter account.

Their meeting followed Sir John’s speech that slammed their successor Theresa May’s “cheap rhetoric”.

And he blasted the current PM for being “unreal and over-optimistic” in a stunning intervention on Monday evening.

Last night worried Tories raised concern that Mr Cameron could be appearing to endorse Sir John’s words with such a public display of friendship.

Conservative Nadine Dorries said she was “disappointed” such a lunch took place so soon after Sir John Major’s “very wrong, disparaging, deeply disloyal, destructive and personal attack on Theresa May.”

And the Mid Bedfordshire MP told The Sun that she found it “very likely the two colluded beforehand and that the meeting may have been a debrief”.

She added: “These two led the Remain scare campaign and that has been proven wrong at every turn.

“Perhaps if they stopped sulking in 5-star hotels and ventured into the real world they would see that with every day, Brexit Britain is going from strength to strength.”

Last night a source close to Mr Cameron said: “It had been in the diary for weeks. They are good friends.”
