Brave Labrador Cherry lucky to be alive after surviving 60ft fall off bridge
LABRADOR Cherry had a lucky escape by surviving a 60ft fall off a bridge.
She was out with owner Suzanne McKeown when she leapt over a low wall, unaware it was on an old railway bridge.
Cherry crashed into the road below in Market Weighton, East Yorks, breaking five vertebrae in her neck plus her leg.
She is now recovering but Suzanne, 57, of Hull, said: “My daughter had just moved to the area so we decided to take the dogs out for a walk.
“I have five dogs and often put them in the car and go for nice long walks.
“I was walking with them all off lead.

“We did see the wall but assumed there was something at the other side of it. So did Cherry.
“But after she fell I thought she was dead.
“We rushed her to the nearest vet who said if we’d have gone anywhere else she would have died.
“She was hanging on to her life.

“She needed urgent attention and they had hospital facilities to save her.
“She was in shock and she was bleeding.
“They put her into their intensive care where she remained critical for the next 24 hours.
“After that she showed signs of improvement and they knew she would live.
"Amazingly she was home by Thursday night.
“If I’d known about the bridge I would have had the dogs on their leads.
“I find it crazy that there was no sign at all.
“I can only assume that locals are so familiar with it that they know, but we had no idea.
“I hope to be able to help others after what we have been through.”
